During my May trip to London, I saw this policeman trying to deal with a crowd of tourists. He was not happy.
In 2007, I spent a few days in Machu Picchu. Now, if only I could go back with my new camera!
Happy Friday!
I took this photo of Ollantaytambo in November of 2007. These are Incan ruins in Peru’s Sacred Valley. Once you climb up the terraces, you can see other structures on nearby mountains. You can also see the quarry where the building stones came from. The quarry is nine kilometers away, on top of another mountain.

I just returned home from a trip to Oregon. I took the above photo on the Rogue River, near Grants Pass.
I went on a short rafting trip on the Rogue River. However, I was worried about taking the camera. So, I only took photos wading along the shore. In the raft, I concentrated on [...]
I just returned to Houston after a short trip to London, England.
I lived in the UK for a year in college, but it had been 8 years since my last visit. This trip had a nice mixed feeling of foreign and familiar.
One of the best parts of my trip to Roatan was the wild dolphin that swam with us. Dolphins aren’t usually seen in the the bays of Roatan, but this one hung around for several days.
Last week I was on the island of Roatan, which is one of the Bay Islands off of Honduras.
This picture is of Half Moon Bay, on the western end of the island.

I spent last Christmas in Mancora, Peru. Here is a short clip I recorded at the beach.
By the way, the music track is me playing guitar.
Machu Picchu Overview from Theodore Scott on Vimeo.
It has been about a year since I visited Machu Picchu. Today, I was transferring all my files to a new computer and I found this video.
I just recorded while turning in a circle, but it gives you a good feel for the size and layout of [...]

National Geographic Traveler’s blog, Intelligent Travel, just posted a photo of mine in their Global Eye series. It is a photo that I took in Peru of some Quechua women hand-dyeing alpaca yarn.
Another of my photos was chosen for Gadling’s Photo of the Day series.
I took the picture less than a week ago in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Here is the big version.
One of my previous photos was picked in June.
A news piece of mine titled Machu Picchu: Threatened by Tourism? was just posted by Ethical Traveler.
Deforestation, landslides, and urban development are threatening the site. The number of visiting tourists has more than doubled in the last ten years and is now at around 800,000 people.

The Traveler’s Notebook published an article of mine called Ten Travels (and their Tales) that Made History.
It is about my favorite old travel books. I read a lot of books about world exploration, and it was nice to put that to use in this piece. Every book I mention is over 100 [...]
Why Go is a travel blog that is part of the extensive BootsnAll network of travel blogs. They do one post a day, featuring either a photo or a quotation. Today, they chose one of my photos. Check it out. It is from a parade I saw while staying in Cuenca, Ecuador.
I have added a page called Photos to the website. If you are interested in seeing pictures from my travels, check it out.
Recently, I put together a coffee table photo book. It is made entirely of photos I took during my trip through Peru, Bolivia, & Ecuador.
I made the book for myself and didn’t expect anyone else to be interested in it. However, I have been asked where it can be bought. So, here it is:
Peru, Bolivia, [...]
My article on dam removals was just published by the fine folks at The Traveler’s Notebook. It is titled Rivers Set Free: 5 Dam Removal Projects to Visit in 2008.
My latest article is called Join the Navy, See the World. It is published over on The Traveler’s Notebook. The photos are mine as well (including a photo of me).
The title seems a little funny, since I just left the Navy. Obviously, for me, the negative aspects outweighed the positive ones, or else I would [...]
I have another article on Brave New Traveler titled How To Reconnect With Your Friends After The Journey.
Brave New Traveler just published an article of mine titled 7 Ways To Thank
Someone For Staying In Their Home.
The Traveler’s Notebook published an article of mine titled How To Haggle. Two of the photos published with the article are mine as well.
